TDN APB: Our Amazing Rose

OUR AMAZING ROSE
(f, 3, Yes It’s True–Just for You, by Silver Deputy)
*$325,000 2yo ‘13 OBSMAR. O-Repole Stable; B-Whispering Oaks Farm & Ted W. Lucas (Ky); T-Todd Pletcher. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $48,000. Last Start: 1st Msw at SAR July 25.

“TDN Rising Star” Our Amazing Rose (Yes It’s True), easily one of the most impressive maiden winners at Saratoga last summer (video), is expected to make her much-anticipated return in a first-level allowance at Gulfstream Park in early March.

“Unfortunately, she colicked,” owner Mike Repole revealed. “We are lucky that she is fine now. We are excited about her return.”

The bay, acquired for $325,000 at last year’s OBSMAR sale (:09 4/5), was pounded into 2-5 favoritism in her July 25 debut. Chasing early from second through a sharp opening quarter in :21.80, she inhaled the leader on the far turn and went on to win by a jaw-dropping 7 3/4 lengths while under a hand ride. Our Amazing Rose completed the five-furlong distance in :57.68, while her stablemate, subsequent GII Saratoga Special S. hero Corfu (Malibu Moon), covered the same trip in :58.27 two races earlier.

“We knew she was working well and Todd [Pletcher] told me that he liked her a lot,” Repole commented. “She was working with my other filly [subsequent GII Demoiselle S. heroine and the GII Davona Dale S. Feb. 22 bound] Stopchargingmaria (Tale of the Cat). When ‘Maria won her first start by five lengths, we felt confident, but you never know how they will run when it counts. I was very impressed.”

Produced by a half-sister to Minister’s Melody (Deputy Minister), GSW, $451,470, and hailing from the extended family of Grade I winner Bob and John (Seeking the Gold), Our Amazing Rose has posted six breezes since late December. She most recently stopped the clock for five furlongs in 1:01.40 at Palm Meadows Feb. 9.

“She’s been training really well–first at Cruppi’s New Castle and now at Palm Meadows,” Repole said. “Todd is very happy with her development from Saratoga to today.”

Our Amazing Rose is named after Rose Camus, the mother of a longtime friend of Repole’s who was battling cancer in 2013.

“I’ve known her since I was kid and she has always treated me like one of her sons,” Repole explained. “Mrs. Camus was diagnosed with lymphoma and battled this disease for all of 2013. She is an amazing person who showed amazing attitude and will to beat cancer. In fact, she watched Our Amazing Rose’s maiden win from Sloan Kettering Hospital with her three sons. Winning that race felt like a Grade I!”

Repole happily concluded, “Just like Our Amazing Rose, she is going great as well.”
