Corey Lanerie is the winner of the 2014 Santa Anita George Woolf Memorial Jockey Award, which is voted on by his peers nationwide. He was among five finalists that included, David Amiss, Dennis Carr, Aaron Gryder and Scott Stevens. The Gulfstream Park based pilot will accept his award in Arcadia in March or April. The George Woolf Award recognizes a rider whose career and personal character earn esteem for both the individual and the sport of Thoroughbred racing. The 39-year-old Louisiana native began galloping horses at age nine and scored his first win at Evangeline Downs in 1991. Now based in Kentucky for the majority of the year, he has won more than 3,500 races. He achieved his first Grade I win aboard Hooh Why in the 2009 GI Ashland S. at Keeneland. Lanerie has also won multiple riding titles, most recently earning the leading rider title at Churchill Downs' autumn meet last year. Recent winners of the award include Mario Pino (2013), Ramon Dominguez (2012), Garrett Gomez (2011), Calvin Borel (2010), John Velazquez (2009), Richard Migliore (2008) and Jon Court (2007).
