1st Dam: Sultana, by Storm Cat
2nd Dam: Sierra Madre (Fr), by Baillamont
3rd Dam: Marie d'Irlande (Fr), by Kalamoun (GB)
Caval, the even-money favorite in this short field of four, pressed Haleys Rainbow (Songandaprayer) from the outside down the backstretch and moved up to bid entering the stretch. Despite problems switching leads and bearing in early in the stretch, the bay began to open up on that foe and, once straightened, extended her winning margin to 5 1/2 lengths. Haleys Rainbow completed the exacta. Caval becomes the first winner for her freshman sire (by Arch). Her dam was purchased with her in utero for $120,000 at Keeneland November in 2011. The $150,000 KEESEP yearling is a half to Derbaas (Seeking the Gold), GSW-UAE & MSP-Eng, $498,254.
His dam was produced by two-time French Group 1 winner Sierra Madre (Fr) (Baillamont), making her a full-sister to three-time Group 1 winner Aljabr (Storm Cat). Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $33,600. Click for the brisnet.com chart orVIDEO. Click for the free brisnet.com catalogue-style pedigree.
