Untapable to the Haskell
Winchell Thoroughbred’s GI Kentucky Oaks heroine Untapable (Tapit) will make her next start in the Monmouth Park’s GI William Hill Haskell Invitational S., where she will face males for the first time July 27, trainer Steve Asmussen confirmed Monday. Last seen romping in Belmont’s GI Mother Goose S. June 28, the bay breezed five furlongs over the Saratoga training track in 1:01 1/5 Monday with regular rider Rosie Napravnik in the irons. Napravnik was unable to ride Untapable in the Mother Goose due to a shoulder injury, but will be back aboard the filly for the Haskell.
“I was very pleased with her, she breezed extremely well,” commented Asmussen. “Weather permitting, we’ll breeze her again next Monday and then plan to ship her to Monmouth either Wednesday or Thursday of race week.”
If Untapable wins the Haskell, she will be the third filly to conquer the race and first since Horse of the Year and fellow Asmussen trainee Rachel Alexandra (Medaglia d’Oro) in 2009. Champion Serena’s Song (Rahy) scored in the 1995 edition. The Haskell is a “Win and You’re In” event that offers automatic berth to the GI Breeders’ Cup Classic and will be televised live on NBC.
