DBS September Sale Poised to Advance
The 479-lot strong DBS September Sales–composed of both flat and National Hunt horses in training–kicks off in its new calendar slot at Doncaster today and tomorrow headlined by multiple Group 2 winner Kool Kompany (Ire) (Jeremy). Moved from its original August date at the behest of vendors, the sale’s new format has been well received by both consignors and buyers alike.
“This year marks a new date for the September Sales, which we are confident will see this sale continue to grow and perform,” commented DBS Managing Director Henry Beeby. “We welcome a number of new vendors this year, including the Aga Khan Studs and Middleham Park Racing, whose drafts, alongside those from regular supporters like Darley, Gigginstown Stud, Highclere, Juddmonte, Shadwell, etc., add a lot of appeal to this sale.”
A horse of the quality of Kool Kompany will undoubtedly bring more attention to the reconfigured sale. Trained by Richard Hannon for Middleham Park Racing, the flashy dark bay won his first three starts including the Listed Alfred Nobel Rochestown S. at Naas June 2, and stepped up to take the G2 Railway S. at The Curragh in fine style June 28, before doubling up at that level in the G2 Prix Robert Papin at Maisons-Laffitte a month later. A gritty second at The Curragh in the G1 Keeneland Phoenix S. Aug. 10, Kool Kompany is offered as lot 305A with entries in the G1 Dewhurst S., G1 Middle Park S., G2 Mill Reef S. and G2 Champagne S.
Other lots of interest are: lot 341, Lightning Stride (GB), a Manton House Stables-consigned winning 2-year-old son of Equiano (Fr) out of Fame Is The Spur (GB) (Motivator {GB}); Listed Champions Two-Year-Old Trophy winnerIzzthatright (Ire) (Moss Vale {Ire}), lot 366; and lot 373, eight-time winner Sennockian Star (GB) (Rock of Gibraltar {Ire}), who has an entry in the G3 Enterprise S. at Leopardstown Sept. 13.
“We look forward to seeing graduates of this sale gracing winners’ enclosures around the world in the coming months” Beeby added.
Last year’s edition of the sale saw 266 lots sell from 380 offered for a gross of £2,685,875 with a top price of £175,000. The average was £10,097 and the median was £5,750. The sale begins at 10 a.m. local time and the catalogue is available at www.dbsauctions.com.
