Tatts Ireland Part II Deemed A Success
TATTS IRELAND PART II DEEMED A SUCCESS
Tattersalls Ireland this year re-introduced Part II–the third day–of its September Yearling Sale for the first time since 2008, and although cumulative figures dropped alongside prices yesterday, the company’s Managing Director Roger Casey deemed the session a success, pointing to the boost Part II provided Part I of the sale Tuesday and Wednesday–with the average and median of that part of the sale up 27% and 25%, respectively–and yesterday’s clearance rate of 79%.
“We reintroduced the Part II sale on the strength of increased demand from vendors for places in our increasingly successful September Sale, and we would like to thank those vendors sincerely for their support,” Casey said. “This support has enabled us to increase the overall quality on offer over the first two days in Part I and to also be in a position to host the strong trade witnessed today. Part II has had purchasers from 14 countries, a top price of €56,000 and a robust clearance rate of 79%, all of which provide a strong platform to develop the Part II Sale further. We now look forward to working with our vendors closely to enhance both September Yearling Sale Part I and Part II in 2015.”
Yesterday’s session saw 171 yearlings sold from 217 offered for a total of €1,265,200, an average of €7,399 and a median of €15,303. Top billing on the day went to lot 498, a daughter of first-season sire Frozen Power (Ire), who was hammered down to Ballyhane Stud for €56,000. The daughter of Spring Surprise (GB) (Hector Protector) enjoyed a very timely update Saturday when her three-quarter brother Toocoolforschool (Ire) (Showcasing {GB}) took Newbury’s G2 Mill Reef S., and as such she proved a significant pinhook for her vendors, Graigue Stud, who purchased her for just €1,000 at last year’s Goffs November foal sale.
“She will come back to the farm and we will make plans,” said Ballyhane’s Joe Foley. “I am delighted that the vendors got a touch today. She is a three-quarters sister to Toocoolforschool, she is a lovely yearling and very typical of those I have seen by the sire.”
British trainer Ann Duffield has been busy this week, buying seven lots during Part I of the sale, and she added lot 567, a filly by Majestic Missile, to her collection yesterday for €45,000. Consigned by Rossenarra Stud, the bay is out of Belle of the Blues (Ire) (Blues Traveller), who has produced seven winners from seven foals. Phil Cunningham signed for the highest-priced colt of the day when he went to €37,000 to secure lot 525, an April-foaled bay by Cockney Rebel (Ire). The Castledillon Stud consignee is a half to multiple graded winner and Grade I-placed Slim Shadey (GB) (Val Royal {Fr}), and his dam, Vino Vertias (Chief’s Crown), is a half-sister to Group 1 winner Bullish Luck (Royal Academy).
