Full Field Set to Shine in Chandelier
An eclectic group of 12 2-year-old fillies square off in this evening’s GI Chandelier S., which offers a spot in the GI Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies for the winner. Siena Farm homebred Angela Renee (Bernardini) gets the nod on Jon White’s morning line at 3-1. The Todd Pletcher trainee defeated Sunday Sonnet (Any Given Saturday) first time out of the box at Belmont June 27, and was second behind “TDN Rising Star” Cavorting (Bernardini) in the GII Adirondack S. at the Spa Aug. 10. The full-sister to MGISW To Honor and Serve never looked comfortable in the sloppy GI Spinaway S. Aug. 31, and checked in a very distant third as the public’s choice. A dry strip and more ground should prove to her liking, but Angela Renee faces some stiff competition. While the top two from the Aug. 30 GI Del Mar Debutante have skipped this spot, three also-rans are here. Conquest Stables’s Conquest Eclipse (Malibu Moon) rallied strongly to be third for Mark Casse. She was a debut winner going six panels at Churchill in June, and a return to dirt plus a stretch-out in distance could prove a winning combination. DP Racing’s Dad’s Princess (Mineshaft) rallied to the outside of Conquest Eclipse last time and finished one spot behind her. She was third behind Manhatta (Old Fashioned) in her first start for James Cassidy Aug. 10. The bay’s second dam is Hall of Famer Princess Rooney. Manhatta was sixth in the Debutante, and is joined by fellow Jerry Hollendorfer pupils Majestic Presence (Majestic Warrior), who donned cap and gown on the stretch-out to one mile at Del Mar Aug. 13; and Lutine Belle (Bellamy Road), a debut winner at Santa Rosa in July who was second in a Golden Gate allowance Aug. 29. George and Lori Hall’s aforementioned Sunday Sonnet aired by 7 1/2 lengths in muddy off-the-turfer at Saratoga July 27 before completing the exacta after setting the pace in that venue’s grassy P.G. Johnson S. a month later.
