Wiggy Wow

WIGGY WOW
She may have the most unprepossessing name of all the best juveniles of 2014, but the formbook and time analysis states with concrete certainty that Tiggy Wiggy (Ire) (Kodiac {GB}) is at or very near the top of the tree, and she arrives at Newmarket today to hammer that point home in the G1 Cheveley Park S. Successful in the chief contest of her sex so far in 2014 when upstaging the subsequent G1 Moyglare Stud S. winner Cursory Glance (Distorted Humor) and the re-opposing Anthem Alexander (Ire) (Starspangledbanner {Aus}) in York’s G2 Lowther S. Aug. 21, Potensis Ltd’s flying filly was confirming the impression she had created when dominating Newbury’s Weatherbys Super Sprint over five furlongs July 19. “Tiggy Wiggy has put on weight since the Lowther, and though she has had a long season she certainly looks better than she did in March,” trainer Richard Hannon commented. “She is such a good mover and what makes her special is that when the others are shortening their strides towards the end of the race, she is lengthening. What she did in the Super Sprint at Newbury was amazing, but the real test came at York as it was a very hot Lowther and she won in terrific fashion. We won’t think about the G1 Prix de l’Abbaye until after the race–the Cheveley Park is one of the great races in the calendar and it would be fantastic if she could pull it off.”
Only third in the Lowther, Noel O’Callaghan’s Anthem Alexander was suffering a reversal having beaten Tiggy Wiggy by a neck in the five-furlong G2 Queen Mary S. at Royal Ascot June 18, but trainer Eddie Lynam is happy to try again as he seeks an amazing fifth British Group 1 for his relatively small stable in 2014. “All has been well with Anthem Alexander since York,” he told PA Sport. “With Tiggy Wiggy in the race it’s going to be difficult and whether or not we can reverse the Lowther form with her, we’ll have to see.”
Another who returns to Britain hoping for better luck is Ecurie Victoria Dreams’ J “TDN Rising Star” J High Celebrity (Fr) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}), who was upset by the re-opposing Arabian Queen (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) when second in the G2 Duchess of Cambridge S. over this trip at the July Course July 11. She has since captured the G3 Prix d’Arenberg over 5 1/2 furlongs at Chantilly Sept. 9 and trainer Andre Fabre is hoping for better than her last visit to these shores. “She ran quite green, there was no pace and the ground was a bit soft for her [in the Duchess of Cambridge]. So it was just like a French race, which was very frustrating,” he told PA Sport. “She was beaten but not dominated by Arabian Queen that day and, with a faster pace, I would hope that we can overturn the form. High Celebrity is a very good, very athletic filly, who is a star in my stable. She is possibly not good enough to beat Tiggy Wiggy, but it is a prestigious race and I am confident that she will run well.”
Two unknown quantities who were supplemented Monday are Qatar Racing’s 10-length Warwick maiden winner Terror (Ire) (Kodiac {GB}) from David Simcock’s barn and Khalid Abdullah’s Tendu (GB) (Oasis Dream {GB}). The latter, who is a full-sister to Showcasing (GB), scored by five lengths over this trip at Kempton Sept. 3 and could be anything. “She’s a lovely filly–a big girl–who hadn’t even raced when they closed the race,” conditioner John Gosden told PA Sport. “But she won her maiden and broke the juvenile record at Kempton. She’s a sister to Showcasing, so six furlongs is perfect and obviously I wouldn’t have asked the owner to supplement if I didn’t like her. She’s exceptionally fast and I like her a lot and even though Tiggy Wiggy was brilliant at York, you don’t run away from one horse.”
