Mimosa To Take the Baton
MIMOSA TO TAKE THE BATON
France’s Gold Cup, the marathon G1 Qatar Prix du Cadran at Longchamp, is very much a race for the specialists, and so suffered a late blow yesterday when defending winner and favorite Altano (Ger) (Galileo {Ire}) was withdrawn. Aiming to step up and fill the gap is Dr Ronan Lambe and Merriebelle Irish Farm Ltd’s Pale Mimosa (Ire) (Singspiel {Ire}), who captured the G2 Lonsdale Cup over an extended two miles at York Aug. 22 before finishing fifth in the G1 Irish St Leger over 1 3/4 miles at The Curragh last time Sept. 14. Ahead of Altano when second in the Kergorlay was Jean Luck’s May 25 G2 Prix Vicomtesse Vigier winner Fly With Me (Fr) (Beat Hollow {GB}), and he is in the mix if he stays this far.
