Sky Lantern Retired

SKY LANTERN RETIRED
Classic winner Sky Lantern (Ire) (Red Clubs {Ire}–Shawanni {GB}, by Shareef Dancer) has been retired from racing and will join the broodmare band of owner Ben Keswick.
A €75,000 Goffs Orby purchase by SackvilleDonald from Tally-Ho Stud, Sky Lantern earned her first win at the highest level in the G1 Moyglare Stud S. as a 2-year-old. After finishing second in the G3 Nell Gwyn S. to kick off her sophomore campaign last year, Sky Lantern upended the favored Just the Judge (Ire) (Lawman {Fr}) in the G1 1000 Guineas, and added Royal Ascot’s G1 Coronation S. She was an unlucky second to Elusive Kate (Elusive Quality) in Newmarket’s G1 Falmouth S., and after finishing fifth in the G1 Nassau S. wrapped up her campaign with a victory in the G1 Sun Chariot S. Sky Lantern failed to hit the board in four outings this year, and was sixth of seventh in Saturday’s Sun Chariot.
“She gave us some fantastic moments–she was a four-times Group 1 winner and has to be the best filly we have had on the place, and while it was a struggle to get her back this year, she leaves us with some wonderful memories,” said trainer Richard Hannon. “She will now be with the best people at the Keswicks’ stud.”
