Alcibiades Winner Out of Breeders' Cup

Qatar Racing's GI Darley Alcibiades heroine Peace and War (War Front) has been injured and will be forced to miss her next start in the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Nov. 1 at Santa Anita.

“A late night phone call from [trainer] Kellyn [Gorder, who the filly is stabled with during her time in the U.S.] broke the news that we had not even considered among the jubilation [of winning at Keeneland]: a minor injury, a very slight tear of the tiny XYZ ligament at the base of her fetlock will prevent her participation in the Breeders' Cup,” conditioner Olly Stevens said.

Stevens added, “It is tiny however we strongly feel that Peace and War has a very exciting year next year with a great program that could include the [GI] Ashland [S.], the [GI] Kentucky Oaks, the [GI] Coaching Club Oaks, the [GI] Alabama [S.], the [GI Juddmonte] Spinster [S.] and even another tilt at the Breeders' Cup.”

A debut winner at Lingfield May 27, the bay was sixth in the G3 Albany S. at Royal Ascot June 20 and was a close second in a Haydock allowance Aug. 8 prior to her Alcibiades score.

“Peace and War will stay at Winstar Farm's excellent rest and rehabilitation centre until she returns to Chiddingfold,” Stevens said. “The superb facilities and staff there will no doubt give us the best possible chance to return back to her best for an exciting campaign next year.”
