Hall of Famer Gary Stevens got back in the irons for the first time Saturday, jogging one horse and working another for trainer Tom Proctor. The 51-year-old has been sidelined since undergoing knee replacement surgery July 25.
“It's thumbs up,” Stevens said. “It's all good, really good. Tomorrow I work [GI Breeders' Cup Sprint candidate] Fast Anna (Medaglia d'Oro) for [trainer] Kathy Ritvo.”
Stevens rode the Ritvo-trained Mucho Macho Man (Macho Uno) to victory in last year's GI Breeders' Cup Classic just one day after capturing the GI Breeders' Cup Distaff with two-time champion Beholder (Henny Hughes).
