Slade Power to Make Last Start in VRC Sprint Classic Down Under

Connections of Slade Power (Ire) (Dutch Art {GB}) are hoping the 5-year-old can sign off his career on a high in the VRC Sprint Classic at Flemington Nov. 8. The Edward Lynam-trained entire who races for Mrs. Power will take on the best of the Australian speedsters in their back yard before retiring to Darley’s Kildangan Stud in Ireland. Slade Power has proved himself the top dog over six furlongs in winning all his three starts this year, including the G1 Diamond Jubilee S. at Royal Ascot and the G1 July Cup at Newmarket.

“His weight is good, his bloods are good and he looks fabulous and they are all very happy with him,” Lynam told At The Races. “I’ll be over there next weekend and hope I don’t mess it up. Thankfully he’s going to stand in Kildangan.

Added Lynam, “From the minute they [Darley] came in, they were very kind to us and basically let us run him in what we wanted to. We won the [G1] Darley July Cup for them which was great and they’ve been 100% behind us and he’s going to stand here in Ireland so that’s great. If he wins I’ll really enjoy it. If he doesn’t I won’t.”

“I leave on Saturday to go there,” commented Slade Power’s rider Wayne Lordan. “He runs in a barrier trial out there midweek and then runs there Nov. 8, so I’m really looking forward to it. It’s something different and exciting. It’s going to be his last run before he goes to stud and would be great to go out on a good note after such a good year.”
