Royal Ascot Goal For Adelaide

ROYAL ASCOT GOAL FOR ADELAIDE
After confirming Wednesday that G1 Cox Plate and GI Secretariat S. winner Adelaide (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) would remain Down Under with trainer Chris Waller for a tilt at the A$4 million G1 Queen Elizabeth S. in April, Coolmore connections revealed yesterday that the colt will return to trainer Aidan O’Brien in Ireland in time for a tilt at Royal Ascot.

“He could become the first horse to win Group 1s in America, Australia and Europe, and that would help him in his career after racing–it would be unique,” Coolmore Australia’s Racing Manager James Bester told The Age. “Chris has been very thorough and is a big part of any plans, and he will get him ready for the Queen Elizabeth S. and then he will return to Ballydoyle for Royal Ascot, provided everything goes to plan. Things can change day-to-day in racing, so a few months is a very long time.”

Adelaide finished second at Royal Ascot in this year’s G2 King Edward VII S. before his first voyage to America, where he was runner-up again in the GI Belmont Derby July 5. Adelaide returned stateside to clinch the Secretariat Aug. 16, and after an unlucky third in the G2 Prix Niel at Longchamp Sept. 14 he relocated to Australia to scoop the Cox Plate, one of that country’s most important prizes.
