The Aga Khan Studs' black-type winner and producer Hazariya (Ire) (Xaar {GB}) topped the opening day of the Goffs November Breeding Stock Sale when exiting the ring to a successful bid of €480,000 from Oliver St Lawrence.

Sold with a May 19 cover to Fastnet Rock (Aus), the good-looking winner of the G3 Athasi S. for John Oxx has not disappointed in her second career either, producing listed winner Hazarafa (Ire) (Daylami {Ire}) as her first foal, as well as the Group 3 winner and Group 1-placed Harasiya (Ire) (Pivotal {GB}) among her four winners.

“It's great to get into this family,” said St Lawrence, who bought the mare for an undisclosed client. “All the half-sisters have gone to good stallions and Pat Downes showed me photos of the mare's yearling and foal by Sea The Stars (Ire) and Shamardal, both of whom are very nice. She's free of Northern Dancer so there are plenty of possibilities when it comes to covering her.”

Even setting aside last year's Paulyn Dispersal on the corresponding day of the sale, trade for mares at Goffs was incredibly strong in 2013. This time around, turnover dropped from €10,978,200 to €6,683,300, while the average of €37,547 was down by 47.7%. The median showed an improvement, however, climbing by 8.7% to €25,000, while the clearance rate of 79% was down by six points.
