Group 1 Producer to England

Continuing the Aga Khan domination of the opening session, lot 1132, Shalamantika (Ire) (Nashwan), was knocked down to Adrian Nicoll of BBA Ireland for €200,000.

In foal to former Australian champion sire Redoute’s Choice (Aus), who shuttles to the Aga Khan’s Normandy-based Haras de Bonneval from Paul Messara’s Arrowfield Stud, the 15-year-old mare is already the dam of G1 Prix de l’Opera winner Shalanaya (Ire) (Lomitas {GB}) and G2 Prix Chaudenay winner Shankardeh (Ire) (Azamour {Ire}). The family also includes the infamous Derby winner Shergar (Ire).

“She’s been bought on behalf of an English breeder,” offered Nicoll. “She’s the dam of a Group 1 winner and another filly who was a Group 2 winner, so at that money I thought she was very good value.”

Aga Khan Studs was the leading vendor through the opening session, selling six mares for €857,000.
