Clarenda (Ire) (Refuse To Bend {Ire}) (lot 1096) is on her way to Italy having been bought by John Walsh for 110,000gns on behalf of the country's champion trainer Alduino Botti.
The Botti family has enjoyed tremendous success with the 5-year-old's three-quarter sister Claba di San Jore (Ire) (Barathea {Ire}), who produced a trio of Group 1 winners–Jakkalberry (Ire) (Storming Home {GB}), Crackerjack King (Ire) (Shamardal) and Awelmarduk (Ire) (Almutawakel {GB})–whose careers were honed by various members of the training dynasty. She was sold in foal to Dubawi (Ire) to Watership Down Stud for 575,000gns at Tattersalls in 2012.
“This mare is from the royal family of Italian racing,” said Walsh of Clarenda, who is carrying her second foal by the much sought-after Lope De Vega (Ire). “She'll foal here [in Ireland] and may be covered here before she goes to Italy.”
