C'est 'Moi'

Trainer Todd Pletcher has won today's GII Demoiselle S. no fewer than five times since 2001 and is responsible for the three most recent winners of the race. Siena Farm's Angela Renee (Bernardini) looms the favorite to make it four on the bounce for the barn and follow in the hoofprints of her full-brother To Honor and Serve, who won the 2010 Remsen and 2011 Cigar Mile on this very program. A debut winner at Belmont June 27, Angela Renee was runner-up to Cavorting (Bernardini) in the GII Adirondack S. Aug. 10 and a distant third to Condo Commando (Tiz Wonderful) in a sloppy edition of the GI Spinaway S. Aug. 31 before annexing the GI Chandelier S. at Santa Anita Sept. 27. Sent off the 33-10 chalk in the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Nov. 1, the bay filly was bumped and took and awkward step early on, made a mild run on the turn, but emptied out late to finish 10th behind Take Charge Brandi (Giant's Causeway). “She came back from the Breeders' Cup and has been training well and eating well,” said assistant trainer Byron Hughes. “There doesn't seem to be any real reason for what happened–she was bumped at the start, but it was more that she just didn't fire that day.”

Court Commando flashed sharp speed in taking the Spinaway by better than 13 lengths, but exits an even fourth to Juvenile Fillies also-ran By the Moon (Malibu Moon) in the GI Frizette S. Oct. 4. “She's such a good horse– she's been training well, so we are hopeful she will come back and run well,” commented her trainer Rudy Rodriguez. Quezon (Tiz Wonderful) gives her sire a second live chance in the Demoiselle, and the New York-bred is perfect in two starts, including a six-length thrashing of heavily favored Temper Mint Patty (Congrats) in the Oct. 18 Maid of the Mist S. up the Cross Island Parkway. Lasix goes on this afternoon. Jacaranda (Congrats) is the other unbeaten in here, having won her maiden by five lengths Sept. 21 and the GIII Tempted S. by 3 1/2 front-running lengths Nov. 2.
