Strawbridge-Breds South Bound

Strawbridge-Breds South Bound…
Lots 1391 and 1393 are both bound for the Southern Hemisphere after being bought by Raffles Farm and Dean Hawthorne Bloodstock, respectively.

Lively Sprite (GB) (1391) is an unraced 3-year-old Dansili (GB) half-sister to dual Group 3-winning stayer Gatewood (GB) (Galileo {Ire}), who was 12th in this year’s G1 Melbourne Cup and whose previous victories include the G3 Geelong Cup in Australia. She was sold carrying her first foal by Galileo’s son, Nathaniel (Ire), for 130,000gns.
The New Zealand-based Raffles Farm is managed by Bruce Sherwin, who is working at Tattersalls with agent Guy Mulcaster. Sherwin said, “She’s a very appealing young mare, especially with her half-brother having had good form in Europe and Australia–that’s important when it comes to marketing her future offspring. The European-bred horses are very dominant in the staying ranks and we’re looking to take some of those bloodlines back to New Zealand.”
Bred by George Strawbridge and offered for him through James Wigan’s West Blagdon Stud, Lively Sprite is a daughter of Group 3 winner Felicity (Ire) (Selkirk), whose brother Aiken (GB) won the G2 Grand Prix de Chantilly, while half-brother Sleeping Indian (GB) (Indian Ridge {GB}) is also a Group 2 winner.

Two lots later was another George Strawbridge homebred, the 3-year-old Perfect Lyric (GB) (Pivotal {GB}, a half-sister to the Lingfield Oaks Trial winner Dyna Waltz (GB) (Dynaformer).

Grant Pritchard-Gordon of Badgers Bloodstock signed the docket on behalf of the Australian-based Dean Hawthorne Bloodstock and confirmed that the filly will be exported and covered by Redoute’s Choice (Aus). Her dam, Valentine Waltz (Ire) (Be My Guest), won the 1999 Poule d’Essai des Pouliches and is a half-sister to GI Matron S. winner Sense Of Style (Thunder Gulch) from the Kilfrush Stud family of Mill Princess (GB).
