Shadai Adds Mares Prior to Tatts

The top-class Shadai broodmare band was augmented with two quality private purchases in the forms of Place Vendome (Fr) (Dr Fong) and Velda (GB) (Observatory) prior to the start of the Tattersalls December Mares Sale according toRacing Post. Place Vendome, who placed in two French stakes, is already responsible for G1 Poule D’Essai Des Poulains hero Style Vendome (Fr) (Anabaa) and stakes winner Prestige Vendome (Fr) (Orpen) who was runner-up in the same race to GI Breeders’ Cup Mile hero Karakontie (Jpn) (Bernstein) this year and ran third in the G1 Criterium International as a juvenile. A €28,500 DEAOCT yearling, the gray sold in foal to superstar Frankel (GB) whose first weanlings came on the market this year. Velda too, has already produced a winner at the highest level in the form of French champion 2-year-old filly Vorda (Fr) (Orpen) after wins in the G1 Cheveley Park S. across the channel and winning the G2 Prix Robert Papin besides placing in the G1 Prix Morny in her native land. Velda, currently in foal to Redoute’s Choice (Aus), last graced a sales ring when selling for €1,500 in 2012. Both mares arrived at Shadai Farm Nov. 26.
