Quick Return For Cross Pattee

Quick Return For Cross Pattee…
The Oppenheimer-bred Oasis Dream (GB) mare Cross Pattee (Ire) went through the Tattersalls ring last year for 36,000gns but, reoffered on Wednesday (lot 2004) as one of relatively few mares to have conceived to the subfertile triple Group 1 winner Al Kazeem (GB), her price tag rose to 115,000gns. She will join Sheikh Fahad Al Thani’s broodmare band after David Redvers signed for the 4-year-old from Overbury Stud.

Redvers said, “We haven’t made any covering plans yet, I like cover of a cross of Dubawi over a Green Desert [line] mare–the same as Makfi. The foal will be sold, she has been bought for the commercial operation. There won’t be many Al Kazeems around.”

Overbury Stud manager Simon Sweeting added, “Cross Pattee was one of a few mares bought last year for a syndicate with the express intention of having them covered and then reoffering them for sale. We were delighted she managed to get in foal to Al Kazeem and it was a pleasant surprise to have such a good sale.”

Out of Anthony Oppenheimer’s listed-placed Victoria Cross (Ire) (Mark Of Esteem {Ire}), Cross Pattee is a half-sister to dual Group 2 winner Bronze Cannon (Lemon Drop Kid) and his full-sibling, G3 My Charmer H. victrix Valiant Girl (GB). Victoria Cross’s Sea The Stars yearling colt was bought by Charlie Gordon-Watson for 600,000gns at the recent October Sale.

Redvers later went to 150,000gns for Jacqueline Quest’s half-sister Coquette Noire (Ire) (lot 2082) from the Castlebridge Consignment. The winning daughter of Holy Roman Emperor (Ire) had also been covered by Al Kazeem but later visited Farhh (GB) when failing to get in foal.
