Al Shaqab’s Dubday Returns a Winner in Qatar

A maiden winner and Group 3 placed in Germany for trainer Andreas Trybuhl, Dubday (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) was well sold at the 2013 Arqana Arc Sale and quickly repaid his new owner’s investment, winning the Qatar Derby last December, the Gold Trophy Feb. 6 and the Emir’s Trophy three weeks later in his first appearance for Al Shaqab Racing. The 4-year-old entire was given a shot in the G1 Dubai Sheema Classic Mar. 29, but was knocked off stride when tragedy befell Mars (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) on the first turn, was effectively pulled up three furlongs out and was eased under the wire. With Frankie Dettori in for the ride, Dubday was settled three back on the fence in about sixth position early and came away from the inside on the final turn. Steered out about four wide into the stretch, he quickened up nicely leaving the eighth pole to defeat defending champion Amico Mio (Fr) (Best of the Bests {Ire}) by a clear margin. VIDEO.
