Durkin Joins West Point Partnerships
Tom Durkin, who retired as the long-time race commentator at the New York Racing Association last August, has joined West Point Thoroughbreds as an equity partner on several horses within the partnership, including the promising Phantom Phasr (Ghostzapper), who is scheduled to make her debut over the winter.
“We are thrilled to welcome Tom to our team,” said West Point President Terry Finley. “In addition to Tom joining the partnership on the owner side, he brings a tremendous amount of knowledge and history to the game and will no doubt be an asset to our team.”
Durkin, who joined NYRA in 1990 and became the legendary voice of the Triple Crown and the Breeders’ Cup, hung up his microphone following the GI Spinaway S. last summer at Saratoga. He will be honored with the Eclipse Award of Merit during Saturday’s ceremonies at Gulfstream Park.
“I’ve known Terry and Tom for years and admire the class and integrity that West Point brings to the game,” said Durkin. “They are the gold standard in Thoroughbred partnerships and I am very excited to join their partnership and work with the team.”
