Barretts January Sale Monday
The single-session Barretts January Mixed Sale kicks off at 11:00 a.m. PT (2:00 p.m. ET) today at Fairplex in Pomona, California, with a total of 371 horses catalogued. GI Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile hero Tapizar (Tapit) and Group 3 winner Bullet Train (GB) (Sadler’s Wells) are represented by their first yearlings. Other notable sires with yearlings in the catalogue are Into Mischief, Afleet Alex, Colonel John, Coil, Grindstone and California’s own Lucky Pulpit, sire of Horse of the Year California Chrome. Notable 2-year-old offerings include the progeny of Tiz Wonderful, Quality Road, Tale of the Cat, Line of David and Street Boss.
“January is a service sale for our local people to move horses along and for other people to maybe replenish their breeding stock,” Barretts General Manager Kim Lloyd said. “It has been a good sale. We get a lot of these horses moved and we are happy that it’s a big catalogue this year.”
Last year’s Barretts January sale grossed $1,944,900 from 224 hips sold for an average of $8,683 and a median of $5,350. The sale was topped by a yearling son of Midnight Lute and a 2-year-old colt by Majestic Warrior, who each sold for $70,000. Purchased by trainer Carl O’Callaghan on behalf of Dr. Patrick Sheehy’s Super Horse, the son of Majestic Warrior is now named Sunset Sparkle and is unraced.
This is the last year that this sale will be held at Fairplex. After the February Select 2-year-olds sale, all Barretts sales will be held at Del Mar. Click here to view the catalogue.
