Trainer Todd Pletcher sent out a trio of promising sophomores to work Sunday at Palm Beach Downs. Unbeaten Competitive Edge (Super Saver), off since winning the Sept. 1 GI Hopeful S., breezed a half-mile in :48.42. “He's coming back,” Pletcher explained. “That was his third half back. He seems to be rounding into form. We'll give him a five-eighths next week, but he's still probably a month away.”
Let's Go Stable and WinStar Farm's Daredevil (More Than Ready), winner of last year's GI Champagne S., breezed four furlongs in :48.29. “That was his third work back,” Pletcher said. “He's also rounding into form. He's on a similar schedule to Competitive Edge.” Pletcher said the chestnut colt, off since running a troubled 11th in the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile, may make his next start in the Feb. 28 GII Swale S.
Double Diamond Farm's J S Bach (Tale of the Cat), who was tabbed a “TDN Rising Star” after his 8 1/2-length maiden score at Gulfstream Jan.17, breezed four furlongs in :48.61. “We're considering the [GII] Risen Star or the [GII] Fountain of Youth on Feb. 21,” Pletcher said.
