Headwater New Slipper Favorite

Headwater (Aus) (Exceed and Excel {Aus}) has been promoted to 4-1 favoritism for the Mar. 21 G1 Golden Slipper after winning yesterday’s G2 Silver Slipper S. in dominating fashion. Fastest from the barriers, the imposing bay controlled affairs early and was never threatened in the 1100 meter event, drawing off to win by almost 2 1/2 lengths from Voilier (Aus) (Beneteau {Aus}). ‘TDN Rising Star’ Ottoman (Aus) (Exceed and Excel {Aus}), the former co-favorite for the Slipper, traveled wide throughout without cover and failed to find another gear in the stretch, checking in fourth. 

Former co-favorite and ‘TDN Rising Star’ Vancouver (Aus) (Medaglia d’Oro) is now the 5.5-1 second choice, and G2 Blue Diamond Prelude winner Fontiton (Aus) (Turffontein {Aus}) is the 7-1 third choice. Ottoman now sits at 14-1. 
Headwater carries the colors of Vinery Stud and is owned by a syndicate, and is trained by Team Hawkes, victorious in last year’s Golden Slipper with Mossfun (Aus) (Mossman {Aus}). Headwater took his record to two-for-two in the Silver Slipper, and it was not indicated whether he would have another run prior to the main event.
