Tatts To Sponsor Curragh Classics
Tattersalls has signed a deal to sponsor a trio of Group 1 events at The Curragh this year through 2017: the Irish 2000 Guineas, Irish 1000 Guineas and Tattersalls Gold Cup, all set to be contested this year over the weekend of May 23 and 24. The weekend will be branded as the Tattersalls Irish Guineas Festival. Tattersalls will also contribute additional resources to boost the prize money of the Tattersalls Gold Cup to €250,000 from €210,000, with the objective of attracting the top middle-distance horses in Europe.
“The Tattersalls Irish Guineas Festival promises to be one of the highlights of the European racing calendar,” said Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony. “To sponsor two Classics and one of Europe’s premier 10 furlong races over two days demonstrates the Tattersalls commitment to Irish racing and reflects the support we receive at our sales from all sectors of the Irish racing and breeding industry.”
Paul Hensey, general manager of Curragh Racecourse, added, “We are delighted to enhance our partnership with Tattersalls and their support of three of our premier races will give us extensive opportunities to attract the very best horses and boost attendance over both days. This is further positive news for us as we fast approach the start of our 2015 racing season.”
