Caviar Cleared of Cobalt Use
Unbeaten champion mare Black Caviar (Aus) (Bel Esprit {Aus}), whose trainer Peter Moody is currently under investigation after a horse in his care returned elevated levels of cobalt, has been cleared for having abnormal levels of cobalt during her 2011 G1 T J Smith S. victory. A frozen urine sample taken after that victory was re-tested by Racing NSW as part of an investigation of a number of samples across various races.
Moody has revealed that he asked Racing Victoria Chairman Rob Roulston to re-test all of Black Caviar’s post-race samples for cobalt to ensure her reputation wouldn’t be harmed.
“Basically my words were [to Roulston], ‘you can kick me to death but please don’t harm her,’” Moody told SEN’s This Racing Life. “I asked if they would look at her samples in regards to this current investigation and publicly announce the results.”
