Florida Derby Day a Record Setter

Gulfstream Park’s 14-race Florida Derby day card set records for both total handle and on-track handle, according to figures released by the track. Total handle for the day was $27.255 million, topping the previous mark of $26.820 million which was set during last year’s 14-race Florida Derby card. Outside of the Breeders’ Cup days, Saturday’s total handle was the largest in Gulfstream history. Saturday’s on-track handle of $3.302 million was a new standard in Gulfstream’s new building, topping the previous on-track record set in 2013 of $3.196 million.

“Gulfstream’s staff and management want to thank our fans and guests for making Florida Derby 2015 such an incredible and memorable experience,” said Gulfstream’s General Manager and Vice President of Racing P.J. Campo. “None of this would be possible without our fans, many of whom parked off site as we continue to develop Gulfstream Park to grow the sport of Thoroughbred racing. We also want to thank the owners, trainers and jockeys, who continued to support Derby Day and our year-round program while building goodwill with our fans and guests. Our Chairman, Frank Stronach, is committed to making Gulfstream Park one of the world’s most unique, year-round entertainment destinations. We will continue to build on that vision with world-class racing and distinctive events for the entire family with exceptional customer service.”
