Lassofthemohicans Eyes Ashland

Wachtel Stable, Brous Stable LLC and Meadowland Thoroughbreds’ Lassofthemohicans (Indian Charlie) ships in from Florida Tuesday ahead of a tilt at Saturday’s GI Central Bank Ashland S. at Keeneland. The dark bay filly was second behind Birdatthewire (Summer Bird) in the Jan. 24 GII Forward Gal S. and is looking to rebound from a fifth-place effort in the Feb. 21 GII Davona Dale S.

“I don’t know if she really liked the track down there,” trainer Brendan Walsh said Monday. “The track is too speed-favoring and in the Davona Dale, I thought she’d be last at the three-eighths pole, but she hung in there. It was a funny track that day.”

Lassofthemohicans was a nose short runner-up in a maiden race at Keeneland last October.

“She ran well here in the fall, and her first time going two turns at Churchill Downs, she was only beaten a length and a half by Birdatthewire and that was her third race around two turns,” Walsh continued.

Lassofthemohicans tuned up for the Ashland with a five-furlong work at Palm Meadows Saturday in 1:02.45.
The probable field for the Ashland also includes: Achiever’s Legacy (City Zip); Angela Renee (Bernardini); Lovely Maria (Majesticperfection), Peace and War (War Front); Silverpocketsfull (Indian Charlie), Temper Mint Patty(Congrats); and West Coast Belle (Tapit).
