Brilliant G1 Idee 145 Deutches Derby hero Sea the Moon (Ger) (Sea the Stars {Ire}) has been voted the 2014 German Horse of the Year by the German public according to www.galopponline.de. The Markus Klug trainee stormed to an 11-length victory in the German Derby last July, before sustaining an injury which forced his retirement to Lanwades Stud in England, when runner-up in the G1 Longines Grosser Preis Von Baden in September of 2014. In addition to his Classic victory, the Gestut Gorlsdorf homebred won the G2 Oppenheim-Union-Rennen and G3 Fruhjahrs-Preis Des Bankhauses Metzler in a three-for-four campaign and 41.98% of the votes. Second in the voting was 2014 G1 Melbourne Cup winner Protectionist (Ger) (Monsun {Ger}) (39.10%) who has an entry in the G1 Schweppes Sydney Cup during the second weekend of The Championships at Royal Randwick in Sydney, Australia Apr. 11.
