Frammento Still Outside Looking In

Mossarosa’s Frammento (Midshipman), most recently a distant fourth behind ‘TDN Rising Star’ Carpe Diem (Giant’s Causeway) in the GI Toyota Blue Grass S. at Keeneland Apr. 4, worked a half-mile in :48 Friday morning at Keeneland, as connections hold out home that the chestnut colt might earn a spot in the field for next Saturday’s GI Kentucky Derby.

Clockers timed the $260,000 Fasig-Tipton Florida March 2-year-old purchase in fractions of :12.20 for the first furlong and :24 for the first quarter mile, then galloped out five-eighths of a mile in 1:02.40 (video).

“It was very professional, very even. That’s what you want,” Zito said about the breeze. “He’s a true mile and a quarter horse. If he gets in there, he’ll do some damage going a mile and a quarter.”

Frammento sits in 21st position for the Derby, with the top 20 horses earning a spot in the gate.
