Godolphin's Beautiful Romance (GB) (New Approach {Ire}), a nine-length Doncaster maiden winner in her lone juvenile outing last year, is likely to miss the G1 Epsom Oaks June 5, according to trainer Saeed bin Suroor. Beautiful Romance was last seen finishing third in the G3 Nell Gwyn S. at Newmarket Apr. 15.
“Beautiful Romance had a setback when she ran at Newmarket last time in the Nell Gwyn,” bin Suroor said. “Although she's still in the Oaks, she is unlikely to go for it. She's back in light training and we will now maybe take her to Royal Ascot for the Ribblesdale.”
Beautiful Romance was as short as 10-1 for the Oaks.
Another Godolphin Oaks entry, Very Special (Ire) (Lope De Vega {Ire}), was scratched from a race at York Friday.
“Very Special was a coughing a lot [on Friday] and she scoped very badly,” bin Suroor explained. “She had been doing really until then. After she had won at Kempton the plan was to go to the race at York [Michael Seely Memorial S.]. We will maybe look at a listed race at Haydock with her.”
