Chad Brown will be represented by a trio of sophomore fillies in Saturday's GI American Oaks at Santa Anita. Among Brown's three-pronged attack is Barber, Brous Stable and Wachtel Stable's Consumer Credit (More Than Ready), who strung together a trio of victories capped by the GIII Sweetest Chant S. at Gulfstream Jan. 24 while carrying the colors of Klaravich Stable and William H. Lawrence. A close second to the Wachtel and Brous co-owned Sweetest Chant runner-up Quality Rocks (Rock Hard Ten) in Tampa's GIII Florida Oaks Mar. 7, the dark bay was acquired privately before annexing the Big A's Memories of Silver S. over yielding sod last out Apr. 23.
Seth Klarman's Klaravich and William Lawrence still look to make their presence felt here with Strict Compliance (Into Mischief). The bay donned cap and gown second out in Hallandale Mar. 11, and somehow managed to get up after looking to have far too much to do in a Keeneland allowance over 1 3/16 miles of soft sod Apr. 19. Brown's other trainee might have the most upside of the three.
Mr. and Mrs. William K. Warren, Jr.'s Mrs McDougal (Medaglia d'Oro) was a debut victoress at Gulfstream Feb. 4, but was unable to overcome a wide journey and settled for fourth in an optional claimer back at that venue Mar. 14. Sent straight to the lead last time at Aqueduct Apr. 24, the $450,000 KEESEP yearling lengthened her advantage at will to cruise by 7 1/4 lengths. The 36-year-old Brown already boasts four Grade I victories over this turf course at the Breeders' Cup.
Bederian, Kamberian and Nakkashian's Spanish Queen (Tribal Rule) leads the home team off her 1 1/2-length victory from Sharla Rae (Afleet Alex) in the local nine-furlong GII Honeymoon S. May 3. The Richard Baltas pupil aired by 5 3/4 lengths in head-turning last-to-first fashion over Cal-breds here Mar. 5, and was a neck second in the GIII Providencia S. two back Apr. 4.
Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners' Feathered (Indian Charlie), twice Grade I-placed and a close fourth in the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies last season, checked in fourth in a Gulfstream allowance Mar. 6 and seventh as the chalk in Oaklawn's GIII Fantasy S. Apr. 4. Switched to the turf for the first time for the GIII Edgewood S. at Churchill May 1, the $300,000 OBSMAR grad was allowed a very easy lead and capitalized with a two-length success.
Sante Cellars Racing Club's Dating Lady Luck (Arch) enters off a third-out maiden win for Al Stall, Jr. going 9 1/2 panels at Keeneland Apr. 23.
