Zawraq Sidelined By Fracture

Sheikh Hamdan’s Zawraq (Ire) (Shamardal), removed from G1 Epsom Derby consideration last week after returning lame from a work, has been diagnosed with a fracture of his off-fore cannon bone.

Unbeaten in two outings, including the Listed Leopardstown 2000 Guineas Trial S. Apr. 12, Zawraq will now miss most of his 3-year-old season.

“He was re-x-rayed over the weekend and they found a crack in his off-fore cannon bone,” said Sheikh Hamdan’s Racing Manager Angus Gold. “He’s had two screws put in it. He’s going to need three months recuperation. I can’t tell you how long it will take for the bone to heal, but there will be nothing happening in the short term, obviously. It’s disappointing, but better to find out this way than running down the hill at Epsom.”
