Kobiskie Rolls the Dice in Bashford Manor

PTK LLC's Shoot Craps (Trappe Shot) returns to the Churchill Downs dirt Saturday evening and will be among the favorites for the GIII Bashford Manor S. A green third at 2-1 on debut going five panels here May 23, the Dane Kobiskie pupil was subsequently shipped up to Belmont Park to try turf June 7. The $110,000 KEESEP yearling showed improved speed that day, and earned a 3/4-length success to become the first winner for his well-regarded freshman sire (by Tapit). The dark bay has posted a pair of solid works at The Thoroughbred Center since that outing, and could prove formidable if the switch back to dirt isn't an issue. Jerrry Durant's Show Bound (Warrior's Reward) was backed down to 3-2 favoritism in that same June 7 Belmont turf maiden, and dueled with the winner before settling for third. Without a particularly turf-leaning pedigree and sent out by a trainer in Steve Asmussen who tends to excel on the main track, the $170,000 KEESEP yearling has every right to step forward and break his maiden the hard way. Asmussen will also saddle second-out Indiana Grand winner Sapphire Storm (Primal Storm. Conditioner Bret Calhoun has annexed the last two renewals of the corresponding Debutante S. for fillies, and will look to add to his juvenile success here with He's Comin in Hot (Early Flyer). Third behind impressive next-out Tremont S. winner Cocked and Loaded (Colonel John) at Keeneland Apr. 9, the bay checked in second here–one spot ahead of head-turning G2 Queen Mary S. winner Acapulco (Scat Daddy)–May 8. He finally broke through with a front-running 4 1/2-length score going a furlong shorter here June 12, and draws the rail for the second straight time.
