Four time Group 1 winner Al Kazeem (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}), who injured a sesamoid after winning the G1 Tattersalls Gold Cup May 24, has resumed light work for trainer Roger Charlton, who has hopes of an autumn campaign for the 7-year-old John Deer colorbearer.
“Al Kazeem is being ridden and as of today he will start trotting for the first time, which is good news,” said Charlton. “He will then have another scan in three or four weeks.”
Al Kazeem, who won the 2013 Tattersalls Gold Cup, G1 Prince of Wales's S. and G1 Coral-Eclipse and returned to training last year after proving subfertile at stud, was winning his third race since his comeback and first Group 1 in his last outing.
“It is a shame he has been unable to run in the Prince Of Wales's S. or the Eclipse, as his form suggests he would have been in the shake-up of both races,” Charlton added. “He is not going to all of a sudden make an appearance and if all is well, we will plan for the autumn but only time will tell us if we can do that.”
