Dozen Ways to Dive Into Lake George

A wide-open field of 12 will help launch the prestigious Saratoga meeting in Friday’s GII Lake George S. Feathered (Indian Charlie), a runaway maiden winner at the Spa last summer, has taken her game to the next level since switching to grass. She followed a wire-to-wire tally in Churchill’s GIII Edgewood S. May 1 with a game second in the GI American Oaks at Santa Anita May 30. “In her first couple of starts this year, she didn’t seem to have regained her 2-year-old form,” trainer Todd Pletcher said. “So, we turned to the grass and that seemed to take care of it. We’re not surprised with her pedigree that she likes it, but she’s a good, versatile filly that handles multiple surfaces and distances.” Celestine (Scat Daddy) enters riding a four-race winning streak, including Belmont’s Wait a While S. May 16 and Wild Applause S. June 14. She dug in to hold off Partisan Politics (More Than Ready), winner of last summer’s P. G. Johnson S. here, by a nose last time. Mississippi Delta (Giant’s Causeway), given the nod at 4-1 on the morning line, stretches to a route for the first time. The bay rattled off three straight wins at Woodbine, including a visually impressive come-from-behind performance over a yielding going in the Alywow S. last time June 14.
