The 2016 foal crop is projected to be 22,500, according to statistics released Saturday by The Jockey Club. That number is up from the 2014 and 2015 crops which numbered 22,000 foals. “The projection for the 2016 foal crop is based on reports of mares bred received to date, and we estimate that approximately 80% of those reports have been received,” The Jockey Club’s executive vice president and executive director Matt Iuliano said in the release. The 2016 projection is based on Reports of Mares Bred received so far this year. The reports are due Aug. 1 of each breeding season.
