Gleneagles Out Of International Clash

Having withdrawn the horse at a late stage for the G1 Juddmonte International, the Ballydoyle team now have to plan the next step for Gleneagles (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}). York’s loss could be Leopardstown’s gain, as the G1 Irish Champion S. Sept 12, also over 10 furlongs, is the next suitable option. Explaining the York decision O’Brien said, “Gleneagles is a very fast horse, we saw at Newmarket what he could do on fast ground. It wouldn’t be fair to ask him to run over 10 furlongs for the first time on this ground. It’s soft in places and the lads were prepared to run him over the trip, but only on faster ground. We’ll have a look at the Irish Champion and if it is good to firm there we’d love to be there, if not he won’t be.”
