Johnston Gives Juvenile Updates

Trainer Mark Johnston provided updates on two of his highly regarded Godolphin-owned juveniles, Lumiere (GB) (Shamardal) and Buratino (Ire) (Exceed and Excel {Aus}), Sunday. The former was beaten 2 1/4 lengths by Besharah (Ire) (Kodiac {GB}) in Thursday’s G2 Lowther S. at York, and Johnston noted she emerged from her second start with superficial scrapes.

“She came out of the race absolutely fine,” he said. “She had a few grazes on the outside of her hind leg. I’m not really sure where that happened in the race.”

Buratino was scratched from Saturday’s G2 Gimcrack S. due to the soft going, and Johnston noted the busy juvenile–who has made seven starts for four wins and three placings–will wait for better ground.

“He will run again when the ground is fast. He is well entered up, but we will just have to wait and see when he gets his ground,” he said.
