Minding Leads an O’Brien and Galileo One-Two-Three In the Moyglare
Updated: September 13, 2015 at 4:56 pm
Two-lengths second to Ballydoyle in the G2 Debutante S. over this course and distance last time Aug. 22, Minding found some improvement to reverse that form and avenge the defeat of her dam Lillie Langtry (Ire) (Danehill Dancer {Ire}) who was only third as the 8-11 favorite in this six years ago. Having finished second to Tanaza (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) attempting to make all over this trip at Leopardstown June 11, the bay reverted to six furlongs to score by 5 1/2 lengths there a fortnight later and had been reported by Aidan O’Brien beforehand to need her outing in the Debutante. Keen early but manageable for Seamie Heffernan sticking close to the pace set by Ballydoyle, she was inclined to hang in behind her barnmate who had seen off everything else inside the final quarter mile. Once straightened out, she was able to roll by her with 100 yards remaining and assert under a hand ride for a cozy success, with Alice Springs staying on strongly to complete the trifecta of O’Brien-trained Coolmore Galileo homebreds. “We always thought Joseph’s filly [Ballydoyle] was very good, but we weren’t sure about the ground as she’s a beautiful mover. Minding’s dam Lillie Langtry handled soft ground very well, so it was always possible that she could out-gun Ballydoyle on that ground. The filly that won won’t mind stepping up to a mile and could be there for the G1 Fillies’ Mile [at Newmarket Oct. 9] and Joseph’s has done plenty this year, while Alice Springs could drop back if she needs to in something like the G1 Cheveley Park S. [at Newmarket Sept. 26]. They are three smashers.”
