Another Major Arc Contender As Dubawi’s Postponed Takes the Foy

On such a sensational weekend of action, by the time Postponed (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) appeared the G1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth S. hero had become something of a forgotten horse but he duly went through his Arc prep with professionalism to book his ticket to the great race. Amazingly, that Ascot feature was the first time that the bay had encountered soft ground in his career with connections keen to avoid bottoming him before he had fully matured. With Golden Horn (GB) (Cape Cross {Ire}) out of the King George picture due to the rain and the likes of the G2 Yorkshire Cup and G2 Hardwicke S. winner Snow Sky (GB) (Nayef) flopping, it was probably a substandard renewal of the midsummer showcase but Postponed had already shown quality when running away with York’s G2 Great Voltigeur S. last August and finishing third in the G1 Tattersalls Gold Cup at The Curragh May 24. Tracking his pacemaker Roseburg (Ire) (Tamayuz {GB}) in second racing enthusiastically under Andrea Atzeni, he took over approaching the quarter pole with his stable companion having drawn the sting from most of his rivals and grittily ground out the win from the revived Spiritjim (Fr) (Galileo {Ire}). “He’s a good horse, but he will never be as impressive as a New Bay or a Treve,” trainer Luca Cumani said. “He’s a battler and he fights. Roseburg set the right pace for him today, but we were worried about the ground as he has not raced on it when it is this heavy. He went through it okay, but would prefer it faster next time in the Arc.”
