Hip 614, a colt by Tapit and the third produce from a daughter of GI Kentucky Derby-winning filly Winning Colors (Caro {Ire}), proved the star turn during the mid-afternoon hours at the Keeneland September sale, selling to Whisper Hill Farm’s Mandy Pope for $2.1 million. The Mar. 7 foal was bred and consigned by Gainesway and is a half-brother to the winning 3-year-old Silver Ride (Candy Ride {Arg}), a $170,000 graduate of this sale two Septembers ago and a full-brother to Tapping Colors, the current 2-year-old filly out of the mare who was snapped up by Pope for $700,000 out of last year’s sale. Silver Colors is the dam of a weanling filly by Gainesway’s To Honor and Serve and was bred back to Tapit this season.
