Harlan’s Holiday Colt ‘Luckiest’ in the Ontario Derby

Updated: September 20, 2015 at 10:00 pm

Lucky Lindy graduated in his second start in a rained-off special weight at Woodbine in June and was second by a nose stretching out over the turf in an allowance July 5. He rallied to finish second in the 1 1/8-mile Toronto Cup July 26 and was a well-beaten third to Danish Dynaformer (Dynaformer) in the 1 1/2-mile Breeders’ S. Aug. 16. Cutting back in distance here, Lucky Lindy settled in third, one off the rail, as Decision Day (Macho Uno) scampered to the front from his wide draw and doled out fractions of :25 1/5, :50 and 1:14. The Augustin Stable colorbearer pounced on the tiring Decision Day at the head of the lane and cruised home under a hand ride. Favored Billy’s Star closed to take second.

“It was only his fifth start,” said trainer Mark Frostad. “He had some 2-year-old issues, so it took him a little longer (to get to the races). He’s coming along beautifully and I think his best racing days are ahead of him.”
