Elsworth To Be Patient With Queen

Trainer David Elsworth is in no rush to make a plan for G1 Juddmonte International upsetter Arabian Queen (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) after the 3-year-old filly disappointed when sixth in the Sept. 13 G1 Prix Vermeille at Longchamp. Prior to that first trip abroad, Arabian Queen had handed G1 Epsom Derby and G1 Coral-Eclipse winner Golden Horn (GB) (Cape Cross {Ire}) his first defeat in the International.

“I thought she underperformed [in the Vermeille], and that is the only concrete thing I can say,” said Elsworth. “People can blame the ground and it was slower than ideal, but I was not totally happy with her as it was her first trip away and she didn’t eat well or drink as much as ideal.”

He added, “We have not got any firm plans. She is entered in the [G1 Fillies and Mares S.] on Champions Day [Oct. 17], and we will see how she is between now and then.”
