Maquette, a hitherto untested daughter of the 2011 G1 Prix Jean Romanet victress Announce (GB) (Selkirk), traded as the 21-10 favorite for this unveiling and was not exuberant at the break, settling behind all nine rivals until turning for home. Nudged along with 500 meters to go, the homebred grey exhibited rawness when grasping for ground inside the final quarter mile and looked set to be marked down as a work-in-progress. However, she loomed large in fourth when finding her balance entering the final eighth and, despite first-day tribulations, quickened impressively in the closing stages to easily outmatch Redcold (Fr) (Nayef) by a taking 3/4-of-a-length.
