+LIRA (f, 2, Giant’s Causeway–Lerici, by Woodman), a 5-2 shot, broke alertly and was with the early leaders before being taken in hand to settle into a stalking position while racing off the hedge going into the first turn. She began challenging for the lead while three wide after a half in :47.91 and grabbed control at the top of the lane. Drifting out to the center of the course, Liras held on determinedly to score by 1 1/4 lengths over American Doll (Tiznow). It was a neck back to favored Tizjet (Tiznow) in third. Lira was a $170,000 KEESEP yearling purchase by Bill Mathis’s Mathis Stable, which also campaigned GI Kentucky Oaks runner-up My Miss Sophia (Unbridled’s Song). The winner is a half-sister to Avenge (War Front, SW, $126,830). Her yearling half-sister by Scat Daddy sold for $475,000 at this summer’s Fasig-Tipton Saratoga sale. Lerici produced a colt by Giant’s Causeway this year and was bred back to War Front. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $24,000.
