Murphy Up For The Cup

Trainer Brian Meehan is very hopeful his progressive stayer Agent Murphy (GB) (Cape Cross {Ire}) has what it takes to land the spoils in Saturday’s G2 Qipco British Champions Long Distance Cup. A very respectable runner up to Order Of St George (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) in the G1 Irish St. Leger on his last start having previously impressed with a wide margin win in the G3 Geoffrey Freer S. at Newbury in August, the 4-year-old steps up to two miles for the first time on Saturday. “He’s been very consistent all summer and I’m really pleased with him,” reported Meehan. “He looked very good at Newbury and was consistent at the Curragh last month. It looks a very open race but personally, I think he’s the horse they all have to beat.” Whatever Agent Murphy achieves in the future he has already more than justified his purchase price of 7,000gns as a yearling at Tattersalls.
