OBS Fall Mixed Sale Begins Tuesday
The Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s Fall Mixed Sale begins its two-day run Tuesday, with bidding on the first of 562 catalogued lots scheduled to get underway at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday’s consignor preferred session features 204 head. The sale continues Wednesday with hips 205-464 catalogued in the open session. There are an additional 98 horses catalogued for the Horses of Racing Age section of the sale, which will begin immediately following the open session.
During Monday’s under-tack preview for the Horses of Racing Age portion of the sale, two horses shared the fastest three-furlong time of :32 4/5. Hip 504, an unraced 2-year-old filly by Crown of Thorns, earned that bullet mark for consignor Woodford Thoroughbreds, agent. Out of Phanie Slam (Grand Slam), the chestnut is a half-sister to stakes-placed Phaniebdancing (Congrats). Also sharing the bullet time was Jazz Player (Malibu Moon). The 4-year-old gelding (hip 502), consigned by Danzel Brendemuehl’s Classic Bloodstock, has made three starts to date. He was third on debut at Belmont last September and is a half-brother to stakes winner and graded stakes placed Barrier Reef (Mizzen Mast).
During last year’s preferred session, 138 head sold for $2,297,900. The average was $16,651 and the median was $8,750. Ken and Sarah Ramsey purchased the session’s top lot, going to $120,000 to obtain the mare Alexandra’s Grace (Hard Spun), in foal to Bodemeister. Jerry Frankel purchased the sale’s top-priced lot when going to $370,000 to acquire Stardom Found (Tapit), a full-brother to champion Stardom Bound, during the Horses of Racing Age section of the auction.
